Dan, my attach method is probably kinda raunchy but it's been working for a
long time. I cut an appropriate sized hole in the screw top so it would slip
onto the output tube, and secured it with a couple loops of safety wire thru
the lid and over the top of the separator. Emptying it merely requires
unscrewing the bottle while the lid stays attached to the separator.

To Mike Easley; not sure I've ever heard that using an oil separator will
overcome the tendency of some engines to "throw" the top couple quarts. It's
purpose is to condense (recondense?) and capture the hot oil vapors (among
other stuff) that the breather fitting is supposed to jettison. If you've
got an engine that throws those top two quarts out the breather then I guess
returning it to the engine is the way to go.
