The 700’ MSL value does not change it much.

1290F is not conservative.  It is getting close to normal.   You really want
to be somewhere between 200 and 300 ROP at full power.

What is your fuel flow during these exercises?

If you cannot calculate an  estimated BSFC above 0.58 lbs/hr/hp,  it is
probably not rich enough.    0.60 would be “nice”.

George,

Arrrrgh................  I don't know what the HP is - It has been my question for years.  Is there a conversion of gallons to pounds based on temperature?  Ok, if it is 160 HP (even at 1000 feet) at 15.4 Gallons per hr. then, at the inaccurate 6 pounds per gallon, that BSFC is .5775.  Maybe I should fly at some LOP setting, get the fuel flow and back calculate the HP from the fuel flow.

Hmmmm, I don't see 1400F on a climb.  You must be commenting on Lorn's O-320 operation.  I see a peak EGT of 1420F-1430F for cyl #4 at 6500 MSLin level flight, 176-180 KIAS, 2500 RPM - then leaned to 1300F-1310F (other cyls are 1290-1300) where I see 10.3 to 10.5 GPH.

I don't remember the peak, but at level flight, 20C OAT, 2000 MSL, 2700 RPM, WOT, EGTs around 1300F, CHTs about 360F, 190+ KIAS, 13.5 to 14 GPH.  I don't think that was quite at full rich?????

I don't have enough hands, eyes or brains to find peaks early in a climb out or remember the fuel flows until everything is settled down a bit..

On the take off run , I will see 15.2-15.4 GPH (EGT 1290), climb out at 2600 RPM, WOT, EGT at 1290 on cyl# 4 (the highest EGT, others are 10-20 degrees less) the fuel flow is reducing (of course).  So, the climb out is not quite at full power because of the RPM reduction to 2600.

OK, my question is answered.  I will target Cyl #4 EGT at 1280F, RPM at 2600 once in climb over 700 feet AGL and the other three will be 10-20 degrees cooler, #4 is where I leave my monitor set.

Thanks,
