Wether your flying a Clipped wing Cub, a 747, or a IV-P, it's a good idea to have the requisite skills from recovering from OCF (Out of Control Flight). It sure doesn't happen very often, but there as been occasion in the training environment where a guy on the inside of a formation "falls out" because lead got to slow in a bank (a Lazy 8, let's say). There is also a tendency, especially amongst newer formation pilots, to subconsciously cross control the airplane. The point here is that command of your ship is highly desired in an environment where 5-7 others are counting on you...

Again, not required equipment, and most likely dead weight in the Lancairs, but that's for you to decide. There will be RV's and other types also attending the clinic (who knew I was building a monster?!!? LOL!), and for them egressing with a parachute is much more likely to be an option if circumstances warrant it.
