In contrast to my inspector, I've
heard of some DARs that go way overboard, going so far as to check
control travel down to a tenth of a degree and nitpicking over some incredibly
obtuse items. Jeff's sounds like a pretty good one to me, somewhere in
the middle - thorough without being obsessive. Wish I'd had him
myself!
Skip,
My DAR spent two days inspecting the aircraft. Had a very thorough
checklist. Completed a squawk list. Did a couple of static engine runs and then
did several engine runs on the runway aborting at about 70 KIAS. Made a couple
of engine adjustments. Looked over my builder records carefully, asked lots of
questions. Then finally, he got in the aircraft and did the first flight. Very
professional and very thorough. As a designee myself, I know that
performance varies. Don't ask for the easiest designee that you think that will
pass you or your aircraft but the one who is going to be the most critical.
After all is said and done you are going to put yourself, your friends and
family in it and fly away.
Cheers,
Jeff Edwards
