The rudder bellcrank is one area I believe Rob Logan mentioned needs a bit of a redesign. Apparently the bellcrank arm can move slightly up and down in the assembly, gradually loosening up the tolerances so much that it eventually becomes quite sloppy.
What I did --- and this mod has NOT been tested over time --- was to replace the 3/8" bronze bushing with a 3/4" delrin bushing and washer. The bushing has a 1" base. The delrin washer is also 1" in diameter with a 3/4" hole. The washer fits over the 3/4" bushing, and is just thick enough to prevent the bellcrank arm from moving up or down on the 3/4" bushing. The entire assembly is a snug fit when installed; however, a bit of synthetic grease permits tight but smooth operation.
Since I am not yet flying, I'll have to report back later on the wear characteristics of this modification.
But John is absolutely right --- this is a control actuation system needing regular inspection.
