I bought two ordinary axle stands and two 2 ton hydraulic bottle jacks.
Total cost US$30.  I also bought two pieces 1/8" steel plate 15" square and
10 feet of 11/2" steel angle.  I lengthened the legs of the stands to suit
the height of the plane, fastened the jacks to the centre of the steel
plate with machine screws and positioned the axle stands above the jacks,
welding them to the base plate.  I made the head out of oak pieces covered
with a a piece of hardish 1" foam rubber.  Works a treat and the bonus is
that you have the ratchet mechanism on the axle stands to support the load
if the jack releases or if you wish to lower it when keeping the plane
jacked up for longer periods.

My total cost was about US40 with a couple of hours of labour thrown in.

Regards

Ian Crowe.
