Hello,

A short update: Only 1 hour to go before I am done with my Phase I FAA flight
restrictions (25 hours required).  Most problems have been resolved and I
only have to work on trying to get the CHTs down a bit more during full-power
takeoffs.  During the last flight, CHT's reached 430-degrees on a sustained
120KIAS climb, 85-degrees F on the ground.  If I climb at a slower IAS, it
will usually reach 450-degrees.  As recomended by Chris and others, I will
install cooling ramps on the upper cowling next...

As far as NORMAL landings (what the heck is that?!?<G>)  are concerned, I
pretty much got the approach down pat, it's the final flare down to the
runway that's giving me some problems.  I seem to be flaring too high a lot,
then float quite a bit after that, using lots of runway.  A few THUDS! here
and there, those rubber donuts don't allow much for cushioning my
landings!(Yes, it;s the donuts fault!<G>),  adding a very small amount of
power seems to help ease the plane down a lot better... Hey, I did DO some
nice smooth landings but nobody ever sees that, right? (I caught a fish this
big! <                 >)

Yesterday,  tried some simulated engine-out landings.  Not easy!  With power
all the way down, this Lancair comes down very fast (glides like a piano?).
I glanced at the VSI once or twice and saw 1,200 to 1,500 FT/Min.  Three
attempts and had to go around on all three.  The runway was only 3,100 ft
long.

So, how does one do an engine-out landing on this airplane?  Anybody got the
right numbers to aim for?

Having lots of fun,  :-)
Rick Argente

PS
Flight Data from last flight:
  1,200 ft/min climb at 120 KIAS, 85-degrees F on the ground
  Cruise @ 24-squared, 6,500 ft: 175 KIAS, 197 KTAS, 199K GPS GS, 18-degrees
