Any creative idea on wing walk? Stick on, Paint on, none? Seems like it's
needed but it is ugly. Plane is almost out of the paint shop.

Yes, Peter I have a L4P flying for 3 yrs with 350 hrs. I used the Clear
covering from 3M Scotchgard.

I had it applied 12 in. wide. In the picture I have zoomed in but it still
doesn't show. I applied it covering the wing gap and about 1 in. onto the
dark
paint. I also used it on all leading edges and the bottom of the door jam
where people kick the pearl white paint. It works fine for a walk on dry
surface
but is slippery when wet. I also use a rubberized protector which is the
draw liner sold at Costco just so no one slips. This stuff is very strong
and
doesn't yellow. Mine is hangared most of the time so maybe long term sun
could
show more yellowing.
Motorhomes are big users of this flim for rock chipping so look for there
installers. It is put on like window film so takes a little skill and is very
expensive. 3M is not friendly to buy from so you need a supplier that can cut
you what you want. I have never had any parts try to come off in flight. It
is
about .008 in. thick and I think it is slowing the airplane down by about 3
or 4 kts. by using it on the leading edge of the wing. I haven't had any
chipping or anything that I think would have chipped the leading edge, so I
don't
think I would do the wing again but the Horz. stap and wing gaps are OK. I
also installed a 1 in. wide similar tape on the bottom inside of the wing
trailing edge where the flap comes up against the wing to keep the paint
from
getting marks on the flaps. I also ran the wing walk 12 in. material down
the
flap so it is all covered even with the flaps down.
Bottom line, I haven't seen anything better that still looks good and most
people don't even notice it. Hope this helps?
