Peter,
The wing walk I used is the stuff Ray
Allen Co. sells (www.rayallencompany.com) . Gary
Menzeimer will cut you any size you want. It only comes in black and
cleans up pretty well. I believe the material is made by 3M and it's
somewhat rubbery in texture.
If you want to try some clear
material, I'd check out the new stuff offered on page 131 in the current
Aircraft Spruce catalog (with Nemisis on the cover) . That only comes in
16" X 30" pieces though. That might be large enough for a 360 or Legacy,
but I don't think it would be adequate for my ES.
At one point, I had to remove my first
piece to do some touch up work on the clearcoat on my wing. The adhesive
had to be removed with some solvent, but it all came off. Before I put a
new piece on, I used the roll-up non skid stuff that goes under area rugs and
found that even the slightest breeze blew it off the wing, usually before I
could get out of the plane. You also have to deal with where to put it
once you're inside the plane.
The one solution that I personally
never even considered was painting on the wingwalk. At least with the
other stuff, in the event it becomes worn or damaged, you can just pull it up
and replace it.
