Dane,
While it's technically possible to equip an airplane like a Lancair IV-P
with a BRS system, it would be such a trade off in weight/capacity that no
one is (yet) willing to take the marketing plunge. Basic issue is that as
the aircraft weight increases (a loaded IV-P is in the vicinity of 3600
pounds; some are heavier) the weight/size of the BRS system gets quite
large. You also need to engineer attachment points into the airframe that
can take the load. Weight, bulk and attachment of a BRS would likely reduce
the IV-P to a 2-place airplane.
My personal opinion is that you'll wait for some time to see this as an
option on any currently-designed Lancairs--or other similar airplanes for
that matter. Salesmen are reluctant to tell you this because: 1)it's always
"possible" and well may be done some day, and 2) it's not what you want to
hear. If this is a big issue for you, look at some of the smaller/lighter
homebuilts that can use a smaller/lighter BRS effectively.
