You need a GPS-VHF antenna coupler, such as the Comant CI-508C. It simply
plugs in line with the GPS and VHF antenna cables, and then you can mount
the GPS antenna as close as you want to the VHF. Even if you can get the 3
feet of spacing required, it is still advisable to use a GPS notch filter as
cheap insurance against the VHF degrading GPS reception during transmit.
