Julie,
One thing you might try is to make a
"form in place" door seal.
This is done by putting a bead of silicone rubber
around the frame (or door) and protecting the mating surface with poly film of
some type. Close and latch the door until cured.
This will help but won't work as well as a more
flexible seal.
F-16 fighters used this method on the access
doors.
