>> Dear LL group: I need help with valuing my IV. I am going through
a separation (the D word). I need to have my 3 year old IV valued for
division of assets. Any help available out there? I am a professional and
would not
consider selling it and would like the value be what I put into it to build
it ($120k), but need some backup in claiming this as the valuation, not
some big number seen in a Trade-a-plane ad. <<
Robert, this is not personal and I really am trying to help. I have been
in your position, recently, ... almost exactly. My airplane is still
under construction so the valuation was near zero.
Despite any appearance to the contrary, it is obvious that this airplane
was built by an amateur and not worth even the sum of the parts it took to
build it. It does have a salvage value worth the core value of the engine,
plus garage sale prices for the used avionics, but only those with TSOs.
The prop (Hartzell, McCauley, or Ham-Standard) could be sold after an
overhaul and conformity inspection. I'd say the value is well under
$50,000.
The TAP ads just support P. T. Barnum's observation that there is a
sucker born every minute.
