Box 15038 (4041 Park Avenue) St. Louis, MO 63110-0038 (314) 865-5368 MC is currently running about $61.35 for five gallons, they will ship "common carrier rates" in quantities over five gallons. Pure MC is a heavy fluid (about 13 pounds /gallon) so a five gallon can weighs about 70 pounds. I use a lot of it apparently since I'm on my second five gallons. Some words about solvents. First of all, the varieties of solvents one can get at the hardware store are usually not sufficiently pure since they are made principally for paint stripping. MC is the best degreaser and is not flammable which is important since composites can build static charges when you're doing all that sanding. Acetone is also an acceptable degreaser/solvent, but it is highly flammable. MEK is also a degreaser; it is also highly flammable, is so penetrating it ought only to be handled with a lot of protection, and it is carcinogenic. Liquid MEK on the skin is asking for cancer and it goes through everything (maybe butyl gloves with cotton inserts would be sufficient). A drop of MEK in the eye of one of my troops years ago resulted in the eventual removal of the orbit. It's really bad stuff for humans to handle. I can't see taking all that exposure for the life of building the airplane. What a shame it would be to develop cancer after you've finished.
