The coin test is good and gives good results but it doesn't have to be dropped. Just hold and tap.  And washers work as well too if you use a large one.  A plastic tap hammer available from a good hardware store is a bit better though.

 

Ultrasonics though aren't very happy with honeycomb cored panels.
