Lancair came out with lighter springs for the pedals just after I went
through this issue back in '97.  The original springs worked all right
for one side only, as you describe.  Now I use the lighter springs on
the passenger side and no springs on the pilot side.  I have a long low
tension spring between the pedals and firewall just to keep them from
falling over when not in use.  My cable routing is as described in the
manual.
