>>I'm concerned that I've introduced a failure mode whereby a
hard landing could in effect snap the nose off the aircraft.
I am ignorant about aircraft accidents and the related damage.
However, if the plane hits hard enough on landing to break the
fuselage, there is likely going to be a lot of other significant aircraft
damage as well as possible damage to the occupants.
I am aware of hard landings (me) that really hurt (me), but didn't damage
the plane, and aware of hard landings (not me) that jammed the main gear
components up through the top skin of the stub wing with no related damage to
the fuselage.
I drilled through the longerons and did not beef up the fuselage.
On the subject of 235 tilt canopies:
Since the tilt up canopy plans are for the 320/360 airframe, I moved the
canopy strut brackets forward on the longerons to get the proper geometry.
Also, I mounted the canopy hinge mounts on the header tank as high as
possible in order for the canopy leading edge (center) to clear the rear
edge of the header tank.
