I had some trouble with hot starts until I installed two new fuel pumps and modified the cabin heat valve which was dumping hot air on the boost pump when the cabin heat was off. Some recomendations.. Mount the boost pump as low as possible on the firewall, less suction lift. Use a high pressure gascolator on the pressure side of the boost pump, less suction restriction. Ram air cooling on the boost pump really helps hot starts. I do not have a header tank so I have to pull the fuel out of the wing tanks. As far as the purge valve it I did install it I would mount it the normal vertical way with the metered line comming up between the cylinders and the return line running aft along the crakcase. It looks like in my installation there would be room. Of course then I need another line back to the fuel tanks probably to both to be safe. and a cable to turn it on and off. Way too complex. If you can build fuel pressure the engine will start. A cool boost pump will do that. Check the clearence under the cowl. You may have enough room. If unsure try my clay trick. Thin plywood over the cylinders, soft clay on top, mount the upper cowl and push down until it fits. Remove and the clay impression gives you the shape and clearance. Saran wrap or wax paper on top of the cly will alow better release from the cowling. Give it a try and see if you have the space. Good Luck Ray Gardner . I have an Airflow  Performance system on my 360 but I do not have the p= urge valve.  I had some trouble with hot starts until I installed two n= ew fuel pumps and modified the cabin heat valve which was dumping hot air on= the boost pump when the cabin heat was off.

Some recomendations.. Mount the boost pump as low as possible on the firewal= l, less suction lift.  Use a high pressure gascolator on the pressure s= ide of the boost pump, less suction restriction.  Ram air cooling on th= e boost pump really helps hot starts.  I do not have a header tank so I= have to pull the fuel out of the wing tanks.

As far as the purge valve it I did install it I would mount it the normal ve= rtical way with the metered line comming up between the cylinders and the re= turn line running aft along the crakcase.  It looks like in my installa= tion there would be room.  Of course then I need another line back to t= he fuel tanks probably to both to be safe.  and a cable to turn it on a= nd off.  Way too complex.

If you can build fuel pressure the engine will start.  A cool boost pum= p will do that.

Check the clearence under the cowl.  You may have enough room.  If= unsure try my clay trick.  Thin plywood over the cylinders, soft clay=20= on top, mount the upper cowl and push down until it fits.  Remove and t= he clay impression gives you the shape and clearance.  Saran wrap or wa= x paper on top of the cly will alow better release from the cowling.

Give it a try and see if you have the space.

Good Luck

Are there any 320 or 360 owners out there who have used Airflow
Performance's Horizontal Mount Purge Valve, with the metered fuel hose
going around the front of #1 cylinder? If so, I'd sure like to see a
photo or two of the hose and actuating control routing.
Airflow Performance recommends the horizontal mounting for tight
cowlings like Lancairs and gave  me the horizontal mount fittings, but=20=
it sure seems more cumbersome than the vertical mount.
