I had exactly the same problem (gas struts squeezing fwd sides together).
The weak point seems to be the area between the canopy's hinge attach
brackets. I added a thin strip of 1/4 inch foam (web depth adds to
stiffness) and several layers of uni-directional carbon between the brackets.
This stiffened the canopy sufficiently to eliminate the severe rubbing.
Warning -- the center section of the canopy will now be lower than before.
Although the panel cover had to be cut off in this area, I use black speaker
cloth velcroed to the forward deck and the panel cover to hide this area.
Also, be sure there will be no interference with anything coming out of the
top-aft of the header tank, such as fill ports, float switches, etc.
