He's been flying his L-235 for over 5 years now with that engine, and I have flown with him a number of times in the right seat. Clarence said that he had the same problem at one time, and I recall that I was in his plane once when it happened. The engine would "hiccup" every once in a while at cruise. Kinda made us both nervous. It turned out to be the caused by a poor seal between the front of the airbox and the cowling, which let the air from inside the cowl into the airbox. When Clarence redid the seal at the front of his airbox so that only outside air could get to the carb, the problem went away.
