Barry,
It sounds like I am just a couple of weeks or so head of you. I too had
tremendous difficulty with the step, what should have taken hours, took
me days and the blue prints are useless. Having said that, I have
modified some of what other LML subscribers suggested to me, and I
ordered some 1x4" .035 " wall stainless steel tubing from Spruce
Aircraft ( order it in 4 foot lengths id you do this, it ships as
oversize if you don't) and made my own bends and drilled a small hole in
the gear box underneath the precut hole for the flap rod. Other
builders have drilled holes through the fuselage but I felt that was a
weak spot as compared to the gear box. I also ran some nyla-flow tubing
in the entrance and exit if the stainless to help prevent wear on the
cable. Lastly, where the cable enters the tubing coming off of the
pulleys on the step, I floxed the stainless in place to prevent it from
moving. This should also help prevent wear on the cable as now the
cable enters and exits without touching the tubing which has become
immobile.
Hope this helps!!
Craig Blitzer, Greensboro NC IV-P recip. hopefully 50% !!!
