Maybe that was me.
My right flap had this problem, left fit
perfect.
Mine was bent a little at the aileron end. The
leading edge followed the
wing until the last 15" or so and where it
dropped .2" or so.
I took the flap to Lancair and talked to
Mark. He had a couple other flaps
there that were not much better.
So here is how to fix it. Mark's technique
enhanced by Dave.
Mark where the hinge position is on the
bottom of the flap.
Take the hinge off the flap.
Fill the pre drilled holes with flox. I used
tape inside the flap to keep the flox flat in there.
Position the flap for the best compromise
position. I kinda split the difference because of the
bend. I yours is straight go for
perfection.
Position the hinge as close to the original
position as possible.
Glue the hinge on with super
glue.
Take the flap off. Careful with the hinge
cause one bump will break the superglue.
Put bondo around the hinge to hold it's
position. You could wax the edges to make
sure the bondo doesn't stick to the metal but
mine did not anyway. BTW don't prep the
flap surface under the bondo, you don't
really want it to stick all that well.
Cut a piece of thin prepreg to fit inside the
flap that covers the proposed new holes.
Drill new holes using the hinge as a drill
guide. Hold the prepeg in position inside the flap.
Avoid drilling
fingers.
Put nutplates on the prepreg.
Knock the hinge out of the bondo and clean
the bondo off the flap (I used a chisel).
Mount the hinge with the prepreg nutplate and
the flap should remount as you positioned it.
Now you don't
have to fiddle with nuts and washers inside the flap.
It was so simple it makes you wonder why they
wanted to "save" me so much time by predrilling
the holes.

Subject: SPAM[RBL] [LML] legacy
flaps
I have fit my flaps on the legacy and the leading edges
seem to droop about 1/4" below the trailing edge of the wing when its lined up
with the aileron/wingtip. The only thing I can think of is to redrill new
holes in the flap for the brackets to make the flap sit higher in the recessed
area. A call to lancair said both theirs and a customers that had stopped by
were drooped a bit...hmmm...maybe its ok...any ideas?
