I have the hinge on my L4P and 210 hrs. Some of this may apply. My Cowl attaches using hinge horizontally and vertically (except 7 screws top rear). I have been very satisfied with mine and I can remove the top cowl faster than anyone can unlock the alternative fasteners.
Mine have No lock holding the wire in and stick out about 1/4 in. I have rounded the end and polished it. Many have asked what it is and I tell them Phased array Radar. You may not want to believe anything I say now?
What I have heard is that with a 4 cylinder engine and 2 blade prop the wire has a tendency to work it's way out. That may be more prone as things get loose. Several RV guys asked my how I kept mine from working out and hitting the prop? I tell them mine has never moved even thought I have had the top cowl off at least 50 times. I also have a 6 cylinder with a 4 blade prop. My wire pulls and pushes very hard and will kink if not handled just right. I use a long noise Vise grip on the 1/4 in. end and just pull it out. I put it in, ground to a point, hand over hand and leave the Vise grip on the end for pushing with one hand and guiding with the other the last few inches, which is the hardest. Then I remove the Vise Grip and us the side of it to push the last 1 inch. You could push it flush this way without scratching the paint. Behind the hole we have the hinge starting about 2 inches in, giving you room to look and feel while getting it started. If you can't see the end it is possible to put the point of the wire behind the hinge and think it is in the right place, a real No No.
