In the good old days, you'd just have glued a sheet
of asbestos to the inside of the cowling . . . sigh.
Re: Gary Casey and his aluminum shield: Are
you putting the TSIO in your ES? The IO-550 doesn't really present any
heat problems. As far as an aluminum shield with an air layer, an
intermediate, preferably a thin ceramic blanket, would probably work
better. That way you'd eliminate both conducted and radiated heat, whereas
the air gap does nothing for radiated heat.
