It is not marked with an amp rating???? so I called TCM tech support and they told me that it was rated 70 amps. FWIW, I have seen over 60 amps on the Vision Microsystems postflight memory which makes me say that I would not be comfortable taking this much out of the alternator capacity on a routine basis. However, I was running the A/C and the pitot heat at the same time(along with everything else, just to see what the 'system' would draw). Someone asked how an alternator (on a TSIO 550) can fail. Please consider the rubber coupling on the alternator drive. Once this puppy starts to slip, your alternater is history and it costs about $1250 to replace(unless you go direct to the LORD folks). Remember, you can buy a new alternator from TCM ( approx $ 1300) BUT it does not come with the coupling ( or HUB as it is called) Unfortunately, I do not know where to purchase a higher output alternator. If you could find one to match the mounting pad and the gear drive, I wonder what effect this device might have on you engine warrenty???? One final thought; at the back of my TCM engine parts manual, there is an optional alternator bracket for a belt driven alternator. By adding a belt driven alternator to your gear driven alternator, you might be able to have your cake and...........!
