I second what Bill Bartlett said on making the flap and aileron hingelines
parallel. I figured that as long as I kept the area of the aileron the same
as the plans show, I could adjust it's shape a little bit without changing
the aerodynamics too much.

I took it one step further, and made the outboard edges of the flaps and
the inboard edges of the ailerons perpendicular to the hinge lines. I ended
up with nice small consistent gaps at the intersections and the control
surfaces do not interfere with each other as they go up and down like they
would have otherwise.

The plans show those two edges "in trail", or parallel to the aircraft
centerline.
