Ric-Grease-Argente,  Got the Alternator problem corrected after putting a new (rebuilt) drive coupling on the gear driven alternator on the Continental I/O 550.  Due to the alternator running extremely hot from the friction produced by the old coupling I also put in a rebuilt 60 amp alternator.  It was taking about 5 minutes after start-up for the coupling elastomer to get hot enough to finally "grab" the hub and start turning the alternator.   Not a good situation.  There is an SB on this and if anyone else is interested, let me know.  The elastomer should slip at about 15 ft lbs and I made the special tool necessary, per the SB to check the torque on the workbench.  To my knowledge, the TSIO 550 engine has a different arrangement to connect the alternator.   BTW, rebuilt alternators are $550, and the drive coupling is $600  (shop prices) go figure.  The most difficult part is getting the alternator off.  First, remove all the baffling around the front of the engine.  Then get yourself a 1/2 in. crows foot socket to get to the four nuts.  Use new nuts, washers and gasket on reistallation.

Anyway, this is a long way of saying that Faye and I will be there, and sign me up for the race.  Thanks,  Bob Young LNC4 N32BY
