I have had much better results with the Princeton Electronics probes
than the Skysports (which I have found to be somewhat unreliable).  They
have the same SAE 5 bolt of the Skysports and are sold by Grand Rapids
Technologies - http://www.hometown.aol.com/enginfosys

Yes, but I believe most others (EI, VM, etc) have different mounting
flanges.

Maybe, but not likely

wing?
My 4' probes can.

>>do they fail often?
I have had several failures with the Skysports, but none so far with the
Princeton.

Sometimes.  The SAE5 mounting flange is not the best design.

Yes, quite

Yes

I have the extended tanks, but only 4' probes (not 6').  Reading the TOP
of the tank range accurately is not an issue (my probes have the 5 set
points to linearize the probe).  The issue (with the large SAE 5 flange
is reading the BOTTOM of the tank.  The large head on the flange
prevents mounting the probe tube near the bottom of the tank.  My gauges
read quite accurately (and are linear) from full to empty.  However,
empty in my case still has one-1 1/2 gallons usable remaining.

I have the PP Avionics automatic fuel controller (that automatically
shuts the pump off when the tank is dry), so this is not a big deal.

My computerized engine monitor is a dual screen Grand Rapids Tech. EIS
system, which I am extremely happy with.
