Recent posts to the LML List have prompted me to mention a recent event. In Dec 2002, EAA Chapter 7 (Long Beach, CA) was fortunate to have Chris Riddell of Approach Systems, Inc give a talk about their wiring system. Whether you have started or just thinking about it, you MUST take the time to see their system on-line (http://www.appoach-systems.com) or at a local fly-in. It consists of a non-powered connector box and you order the cables for your various instruments. They have a room full of manuals at their HQ showing every diagram for each manufacturer.
There are four units from $199 to $549.
Sport Lite $199 2 ports
VFR Instruments 299 5 ports
Garmin 430/530 449 12 ports
IFR Instruments 549 21 ports
Cable prices vary from $49 (intercom) to $199 (GPS with moving map display).
Cables are grounded and shielded, Teflon coated for fire resistance, with attached wire for instrument lighting. LIFETIME warranty. Milspec Tefzel. Recent replacement of wiring for a small commuter aircraft removed 300 lbs of wiring to be replaced by 30 lbs of cables. Cables are compatible with most NAV/GPS/COM, modern audio panels, intercoms, moving map displays, VOR, HIS, RMI, ADF, annunciators, mode control and just about any “send and receive” RS-232 formatted electronic device. Complies with FAA AC43-13B. Credit for returned cables when upgrading your system. Hub box mounts conveniently to the back of your firewall or bulkhead.
No, I do not get a commission for each sold. I already have the gray hair so I just thought I would try to help you save what you have.
Champion Aircraft will be installing the system in their new production planes. Look for other spam-can builder to be dong the same in short notice. An IFR panel can be installed in as little as 8 HOURS. I am not certain if they have a cable for the SFS Moving Map Display but I am sure they can accommodate you if they have the wiring diagram.

Mike Sawicki
