We’re very interest in Theilert’s
new Centurion 4.0 (310 HP) engine for our Legacy 2000 and wonder what the Lancair/LML community thinks about this new engine.
The background as I understand it is that Frank Theilert (Germany) found
great success designing and building auto racing engines for Porche, Ferari, etc. So he learned to fly and was dismayed by
the old technology of light aircraft engines. Decided to create new,
modern engines for light aircraft.
He’s already certified a 135 HP engine (Centurion 1.7) and a 310
HP (Centurion 4.0) engine is in development testing – prototype flying
any time now with certification and production scheduled for May 2004.

they’re reporting from their 135 HP engine!)

Wt. approx same as Continental TSIOL 550-C (water
cooled, turbo charged) don’t know what weight this is… anyone know?

Reliable
rumors are that Theilert is working with Lancair on implementing this engine as an option in Lancair’s airplanes. It would be great to get the big
efficiency improvement from the 0.34 SFC – longer range, endurance,
cheaper gas, etc. and ease of operation with FADEC. Has anyone seen their certified Centurion
1.7 (135 HP) in action?
Any thoughts on this? I
know we’ve got some real engine experts out there…
