The 1/4" rod is not a problem. Remember that when you install your rudder, you must put a washer on the bottom bolt before you screw in the tapped tubing to secure the rudder. The tubing is the same size as the bottom bushing and if you smack your rudder, the tube can push out the bushing.
<BTW: the manual also shows bushings for the -3 bolts attaching the
rudder cable to the T hinge. I don't have bushings for that, and the
hole is sized for -3 already??? I think no bushing?>
I've never seen one.
