As you probably know Lycon is one of = the premier engine rebuilders in the country and they go through a lot = of engines, both Lycoming and Continental. Steve is one of the key = people at Lycon, and he's a firm believer in using straight weight oil = -- 50W in warm weather, 40W in cold. Steve said he can walk through the = shop, look at an engine that's been torn down, and tell whether it had = been running straight weight or multi-grade. He says the engines that = have been running straight weight are in better condition. =20 I expect this may start another lengthy debate (not my intention), and I = realize that this is just one guy's opinion, not the result of a = controlled study. However the opinion comes from a guy with a lot of = experience. Also for what it's worth, my local A&P prefers straight = weight.
