Gentlemen:
I just installed a Hartzell Scimitar prop on my IVP and have the following data comparing it to the original 3 blade Hartzell. Still testing but the initial results look very good and I thought I would share them with you:
Please Note: All test figures are 100 degrees ROP with FF in the mid 20's.
SPEED PERFORMANCE
3000 MSL 31" x 25 RPM = 195 KIAS (old prop)
3000 MSL 31" x 25 RPM = 208 KIAS (scimitar )
10,000 MSL 31" x 25 RPM = 191 KIAS (old prop)
10,000 MSL 31" x 25 RPM = 203 KIAS (scimitar prop)
16,500 MSL 31" x 24 RPM = 185 KIAS (old prop)
16,500 MSL 31" x 24 RPM = 193 KIAS (scimitar prop)
FL 240 30" x 2410 RPM = 174 KIAS (old prop)
FL 240 30" x 2410 RPM = 180 KIAS (scimitar prop)
CLIMB PEFORMANCE:
Alt: 3500 MSL 31.5" MP and 2500 RPM @ 155 KIAS = 1050 FPM (old prop)
Alt: 3500 MSL 31.5" MP and 2500 RPM @ 155 KIAS = 1500 FPM (scimitar prop)
Alt: 3500 MSL 31.5" MP and 2500 RPM @ 140 KIAS = 1250 FPM (old prop)
Alt: 3500 MSL 31.5" MP and 2500 RPM @ 140 KIAS = 2000 FPM (scimitar prop)
BOTTOM LINE:
Climb improves 30 - 50% and speed increases 10-12 kts down low and 6-8 kts up high. More details will follow as we work out the fine points and gather enough data to be a meaningful sample.
If everything in aviation yeilded 1 KIAS for every $1000 spent, we would all be flying around at Mach 1 :)
Happy new year to all
