[LML] Re: L320 shroud
Do I have to take special
procedures to bond with Hysol or epoxy resin on polyester
parts?
Just sand off all the gelcoat and prepare as you normally would.
I used Hysol and put 2 BID over the joint on the inside and on
the outside.
Removing all that primer coat
represents a lot of sanding ours and a lot of dust. The coat is so
deep in the fiber that I have found two situations: or I do not
remove all the coat or I will damage the
fiber. Both alternatives are not acceptable. Suggestions
and ideas, please.
I sanded all the gelcoat off my cowl using 36 grit and a disk
sander. I have noticed many LNC2s with cracks in the paint on their
cowlings. I think it is the gelcoat that cracks when exposed to heat
cycling and vibration. I would suggest sanding all the gelcoat off.
It is a lot of work, but it's worth it to prevent the cracking. Where
you bond, you have to get it all off. Everywhere else, just sand
until 90 to 95% of it is gone.
