After a long review and much study of my present aircraft utility, I
have
decided the turbine option fits my needs the best.    I am presently flying
a Mooney Rocket about 300 hours a year, and once in the 4P, I want a
reliable power plant to allow consistent aircraft use and availability ( I
have other reasons, so it's suffice to say the decision is done).

I find the Walters to be within my expectations, but like the
possibility
of the more efficient Garrett turbine.  I would like to know if there are
any IV's flying with a Garrett, and what are the logistics of the
installation?  If anyone installing a Garret has the time, I would like to
talk with them and even possibly visit them.  My business keeps me
traveling, and I could possibly work that out.  Since the firewall needs
rework, I would like to know if the present firewall mod for the turbine
from Lancair works with the Garrett installation too.

A second issue for anyone converting to the turbine option after already
installing speed brakes; I am interested in the work required to wet out
the
outboard section of the aft bay in the wing where the speed brake was.  I
have the aileron tube installed (per factory instructions) up to the speed
brake area.  Obviously fuel is a higher priority than speed brakes in this
application.  I do NOT want to remove the skin.  I have heard it has been
done via the access panel method.

A last note, it has been about 8 months since I mentioned my FULL CURE
to
a horrible epoxy sensitivity problem.  It is a joy to work on my Lancair
without the tyvec suit and full charcoal mask.  It is much easier to stay
motivated too.  I hope anyone suffering from this problem contacts me, as
this one time cure was cheap and painless.  Now back to work prepping
  winglets for final close.

[I don't know about any IV's flying yet with the Garrett, although I am aware of one that's under construction.  Mike Custard is working on one in his shop at the moment and I'm sure he'd be amenable to discussing it with you.  You can get his contact data from the Builders' Assistance Resource List on the LML homepage.         <Marv>                ]
