I was also hoping to switch to the Goodyears tires but dreaded having to fool with the gear door openings.
My gear came with the first fastbuild fuselege vintage 1994. However, looking at a newer L-IV yesterday, it appears that there are only 2 spacers on the axle and the brake holder was sandwiched between the spacers. It would appear, therefore, that my wheel would live higher up in the housing if I were to switch to the newer arraingment. Getting the tire thru the opening, however, would still be a problem.
Has anyone made the change from the old gear spacer (3) to the new gear spacer (2) arrangement and, if so, why?
Has anyone made the switch from the McCrearys to Goodyears without it being a major hassle? Has anyone tried the new Goodyears III's yet?
