One way to raise the temperature of the nose gear gas strut is to remove the door attached to the nose gear leg that seals the engine compartment from the nose gear wheel well.  During a long flight in the dead of winter, enough engine compartment heat should keep the well warm.

Bad idea Scott!  That door is designed to prevent engine fire from becoming cockpit fire.  It is stainless steel for good reason and is a continuum of the firewall.  Please don't remove or tamper with it.  Further, gas strut maintenance is not terribly difficult.             Greg Nelson
