Well, the interest in the canopy lock that I came up with has been very
high.  I've had numerous inquiries, so I am considering just putting a
little kit together with all the needed parts for those interested.

As far as your question, you are correct.  It is self locking, which is
a feature I like and desire.  The spring could be removed and then it
would no longer be self locking.  However, per your concern, the
actuator will be powered from the keyless entry box (with a diode in
line).  It will also be powered directly from the battery via a switch
(mounted at a convenient place for you....I will probably mount mine in
the center console or under the handle, in that area).  You actuate this
momentary switch to power the actuator to release the handle.  Since it
is powered directly from the battery, if you have 10 volts on the
battery (in case of a failure), it will open.  You can always just reach
around behind the seat from the inside and pull it back.  From the
outside, I will install a manual pull cable (in case of a dead battery)
that is hidden well.

I also have another means of entry into my plane, but that's a story for
another day :)

If anyone is interested in a kit, let me know.  If there is enough
interest, I'll see about putting one together.
