I would like to see the photos.  Can the marks be seen at night?

The first 2 photos are from my plane. The 3rd is from Jen's LNC2.

Jen's marks are just to the outside of the wing attachment. Mine are just about 1.5 ft from the inboard edge of the flap. When looking at my marks, I have to turn my head quite a ways. I think that they would be easier to read if moved further outboard.

At night I either use a flashlight or count. A 2 second count positions the flaps at 10 deg. Another 2 second count positions them at 25 deg. The next 2 seconds gives me 35 deg and a final 2 seconds gives me full flaps. I use the marks more to verify my counts then to actually position the flaps.
