Subject: A 360 failure worth noting

I am aware of a LNC2/360 main landing gear failure that should be noted.  The project has the Outback gear, and has not yet flown.

With the airplane on jacks to explore a gear retraction anomaly, the right main gear was being cycled manually when the GM3 downlock link failed.  The pressed in mono-ball bearing on the inboard end came out of the machined inboard section of the GM3, leaving the gear dangling.  There was no area washer on the aft side of the bearing to prevent complete separation.

Cause unknown.  More later, if I become aware of it.

Dick Alden,  LNC2/320, N425A.  (I have area washers on my GM3s)
