I have now completed the repair to the main spar inboard section nut plate.
This involved replacing the nut plate through a 2" dia hole cut in the spar
closure. A very tedious time consuming job made more difficult by the fact
that the two 1/4" machine screws that hold the nut plate in position would
not unscrew and the good old Phillips heads of course were no help. Thank
goodness for cobalt drills.
Lancair sent me a new nutplate and bolt. The new bolt was 1/4" shorter than
the original, which came with the kit. It would appear that there is a
known problem with the length of the bolt. The new bolt still showed over a
1/4" of thread protruding through the nut after I installed the wing and
torqued the bolt.. I checked this before I did the repair to the spar
closure.
This is a heads up before you apply the wings and to always use the torque
wrench. Believe me you will not enjoy replacing the nut plate.
