To Dan (still looking for a ES standard kit) Newland:
Fundamentally, the solar charger would probably work fine except for a
couple of minor points. First, if one keeps their Lancair in a hangar, as I
do, I'd have to put the charger outside and run the wires to the plane (not
a big draw-back, but a pain). Second, in the winter when the airplane spends
a lot of time just sitting and the battery is in the most need of a
maintenance charge, the charger would likely be covered with snow - blocking
the sunlight.
Of course, if your airplane is sitting out and there's no power available,
it might be better than nothing - as long as you kept the charger cleaned
off (if you live in snow country).
