Hello All:
I have just returned from a trip to Boston to sign a licensing agreement
with Northstar Technologies for them to manufacture the Cockpit
Computer, code named "Junior", that we designed. This device is the next
step in the electronic cockpit.
Junior has the power and functionality of a desktop workstation (200 MHz
MMX) but is only 7.75 x 5.32 x 1.8 inches and 3.25 Lbs. It allows you to
display, from CD-ROM or hard drive; charts, maps, approach plates (all
moving map) and other graphical information in the cockpit on a 6.4
inch, 600 x 800, color active matrix, sunlight readable display. A quick
connect mount lets you take the system with you and a desk stand option
means you can use it instead of a laptop. (For comparison, the Avadyne
MFD uses a 486 DX4-100 processor, has a 240 x 320 resolution display
(less than 1/6th the resolution of Junior) and has to stay in the
plane.)
As a pilot and Lancair builder I have always wanted a device like this.
Best of all, for IFR pilots, NO MORE PAPER UPDATES! Instead you will get
a new CD from Jeppesen and throw the old one away.
Northstar will begin production immediately and will formally introduce
it around SnF (April '99). Pricing has not been set but will be
competitive. Northstar will have information soon at their web site
(http://www.northstarcmc.com) or you can visit our site at
http://www.regandesigns.com and go to the products and projects page.
Please excuse my blatant commercialism but I have been working on this
project for two years and I am excited that it will soon be available to
the general population.
Remember, you got it on the Lancair List first.
Compliments of the season.
