When this started worrying me a year or so ago I did a search through all
the old copies of LNN and "Lancair Mail" and the archives I fond many 320
with either the pilot sitting right or a throttle duplicated on the left
side. These machines where mostly piloted by ex- or still active military
pilots.
As an instructor I know the dangers of a duel system but I'm also used to
fly from the "other" seat. For me the choice of preparing the plane to sit
in the right seat was personal.
There is a very fine line between usefulness and just adding weight, I went
through the howl saga of designing a new panel with inserts and all the
bells and whistles but at the end of the day I might just decide not to use
it. A aircraft which is light "in weight" and straight has a certain quality
that's very desirable.
Consider your actions very careful, it is easy to learn, its more difficult
to remove excess weight.
Pro flying with the right hand but more pro saving weight.
