Gary Wolfe asked:
Has anyone mounted the compass on the windshield of the IV-P? ... Will the
pressurization be a problem?
We're at about 85% on our two Lancair IV-P's, so can't speak from
experience, but my practical engineering sense says don't attach anything to
the windshield. Jim White and I calculated the load on the windshield at
greater than 5,000 pounds when fully pressurized, plus an uncomputed
additional load due to the wind over the surface. The air load should "push
on" the window near the base, but "pull" on it near the top. My
unsubstantiated opinion is that if you lose the windshield, you'll likely
lose the airplane.
