Bill,
After talking with Insight about it, I put my Strikefinder antenna and
ground plane under one of the back seats. If this doesn't work well, I'll
have to move it. I'd originially planned to put it outside, but couldn't
get a good ground plane on the rear center of the fuselage due to the
elevator tunnel location. In hindsight, maybe it could have been done by
bonding a copper mesh plane into the floor before putting the tunnel in.
Because the ES is all E glass, Insight told me that it didn't necessarily
have to be mounted externally, so I thought I'd try it inside first. I had
to guess where best to locate it without the luxury of skin mapping and
under the seat gave me the best location to put a large enough ground plane
while keeping it distanced from the stuff in the panel. The only electrical
complnent near it is the flap motor, which won't be used enough to make it a
factor. I half expect that I'll have to move it though.
