I used to fly a Pulsar (they are the same config as the Velocity...center stick...fly with your right hand) and changing radio freq's, etc. was a pain. You do have to reach across your body. I had always flown with my right hand, and when I got into the Glasair, it took me all of about 2 minutes to get used to it the other way.
