<<Brent, Since most of us aren't familiar with them, could you briefly comment on the advantage of the Livelock versus Dzus or Camloc fasteners? Thanks, Skip Slater>>
Both the Dzus and Camlock fasteners are basically springs that hold the parts of interest together. The clamping force is a function of the ramp angle of the mating parts and does not increase when the fastener is mated.
Livelocks have a three start thread to enable rapid actuation, a ratcheted to lock the fastener to prevent loosening independent of torque and close tolerance parts to prevent fretting. Also, their mated stiffness is an order of magnitude higher than Dzus or Camlock.
Will Dzus and Camlock work for less money? Yep. But then you should be building a Kitfox as you don't appreciate the issues involved in high speed flight.
Bottom line, buy one set to play with. If you are not convinced within thirty seconds that you need them on your plane then send it to me and I'll buy it from you ;-) Regards
