Work keeps getting in the way of the hobbies. The Three classes (of 9) that Lancairs ran in were the Open, 180 HP Lancair, and 160 HP Lancair. All speeds are in kts. 35 Aircraft were fielded under blue skies and SE winds of 15+ kts. It appears that 3 similar aircraft were required to make a class. Classes changed the night before the race reflecting this. The course was deemed 82 kt. 300+ HP Open Class Place Name N # Type Speed 1 Lou Meyer 58EE T. Other notable finishes included an RV6 at 198.12 kts (Richard Jankowski) and an 80 HP Pulsar at 121.63 kts (Thomas Cain). The biggest bummer for me was the Hammer Brothers. Driving Glasair I FT's they rolled in at 212.53 and 210.71 (Bruce and Steve Respectively). Ouch :( I found it impressive that 640 HP (Thunder Mustang) takes 17 minutes to get around the course where for only 1/8 the HP one can Pulsar around the track in slightly over double the time (40 minutes). And perhaps a little less fuel to boot. When asked if the IVP guys and the Poulan Special wanted to play I was only able to hear a faint clucking as they walked away. The showing of LNC2's was quite impressive with about a dozen beauties on the ramp. Numerous IV's as well (gorgeous). A great time was had by all with no incidents on race day. A special thanks to Aircraft Spruce's President Jim Irwin for both sponsoring the race and getting in the trenches to pull it off. Thanks also to EAA's Tom Poberezny for waving the starting flag.
