Why waste your time installing an engine, flying the plane and then taking
it apart and rebuilding and reinstalling the p owerplant.  Also, I am under
the impression that while we are building experimental aircraft; we have a
FAR requirement to have an engine that meets all current FAR regulations and
notams, etc pertaining to engines etc.  There are probably several things
that must be done to that four-banger prior to legally flying the machine.

Do this; rebuild the powerplant and run it on the teststand for four hours.
I did. Then there are no limitations to taxi tests, flight testing and you
can fly off into the sky and not look back to two months down time in the
shop.
